Strengths
- Region-calibrated for 4 European risk areas; predicts both fatal AND non-fatal CVD (SCORE predecessor was fatal-only)
- Derived and validated in very large European datasets with competing-risk methods
- Uses non-HDL cholesterol, avoiding a separate triglyceride/LDL requirement
Weaknesses
- European-derived; requires recalibration outside Europe
- Narrow input set (age, sex, smoking, SBP, lipids); no diabetes, renal, family history, or imaging
- Age range 40-69 in base model (separate OP model needed for elderly)
Input variables (8)
| Input | Maps to atlas factor | Category | Grade | Note |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Age | Age | Demographic & Social | A | |
| Sex | Sex | Demographic & Social | C | |
| Current smoking | Cigarette smoking | Lifestyle & Behavioral | A | |
| Systolic blood pressure | Systolic blood pressure | Blood Pressure & Hemodynamics | A | |
| Total cholesterol | Total cholesterol | Lipids & Lipoproteins | A | |
| HDL cholesterol | HDL cholesterol | Lipids & Lipoproteins | A | |
| Non-HDL cholesterol (derived) | Non-HDL cholesterol | Lipids & Lipoproteins | A | derived: total minus HDL, primary predictor in model |
| Region calibration | — derived / not in atlas | — | — | population/geography calibration term, not an individual factor |
